The beautiful little girl in the photos, Aibei (now Clara), just about lived with us for 3 years. Sue grieved when her "daughter" moved to Germany with her mom (Aibei was six then). But she has just returned, after 13 years, to visit her dad in Xiamen University, and now will stay on and study here for six months or more! Ironically, Clara speaks fluent German, French and English--but she's forgotten her Chinese! (By the way--the first photo below shows Shannon and Clara grinding wheat on one of our three stone meals because we could not buy corn meal or whole wheat then (still can't buy whole wheat, so I use oatmeal to bake bread). Click Here for my recipe!

We couldn't buy good wheat so the boys and Clara helped grind it on our stone mills (we had three!) Family of five!
